After a walk on the Tiber riverbanks, our U of I students ascended to the fashionable Via dei Condotti to sip cappuccino and coffee at the elegant Antico Caffè Greco. We sat in the Sala Omnibus, the very place where eighteenth- and nineteenth-century writers, artists, and intellectuals met to hone their crafts.
We read (in italiano) about Caffè Greco’s role as a “luogo di pace” – a place where people have always come together to think and learn, even in troubled times.
